Marys Peak East Ridge Trail

Highlights:

Hike the highest point in the Coast Range with wonderful views and old forest
Near:Philomath, OR
Scenery:
Distance:9.25 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:2243 ft
Hike Time:5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: From the parking lot take the trail that parallels the road for about 100 yards and comes out where the paved, gravel, and East Ridge Trailhead sign meets. Take the trail which gives you great views of the forest as you climb a sustained gradual climb to the junction with the Tie Trail (there will be a bench there). Stay left on the East Ridge Trail where you'll take several switchbacks and come out at the Mary's Peak parking lot. This is the end of the hike, but you can take the 1.5 mile round trip to the summit. After enjoying your view, follow the trail back the way you came to the lower parking lot.
Trailhead: From I-5 take Corvallis exit and follow HWY 20 through Philomath and signs to Waldport (Hwy 34). Approx 9 miles from Philomath, take a right the Mary's Peak Road, which is paved to the top. Follow this road about 5.25 files to a small parking lot which is the trailhead for the East Rim trail. In the winter there is a gate at this point to prevent driving to the top (and in fact the lower gate will probably be closed also, so you won't even be able to drive this far). There are signs from the parking lot directing you to the trail. There will be snow in the winter. (Lat:44.4969 Lon:-123.5435)
